“A wonderfully exciting late vintage – as good as the brilliantly balanced 2013!”
AN IMPORTANT VINTAGE THAT WILL MAKE EXCEPTIONALLY FINE NOUVEAU WINES
Way back in late May and early June, things were not looking too rosy for the growers in Beaujolais. A really damp and grey May was followed by colder than usual June temperatures, finishing with a devastating hail storm that laid waste to numerous vineyards in Fleurie, Chiroubles and Morgon. The late flowering, which generally took place between the 10th and 24th June, mirrored the two very fine vintages of 2013 and 1995. A particularly warm and sunny late July and August, finally resulted in excellent ripeness and we started picking the Gamay at Château de Grandmont on 20th September, three days earlier than in 2013. When pressed, the juice from the presses was deep purple, with clearly-defined black fruit and floral aromas. We have been careful not to over-extract our primeurs as there was natural depth and tension in the finished wines that did not need any further coaxing out of the grapes. These are gloriously precise and intense Beaujolais Nouveaux with wonderful layers of flavour.
